Student Resources

Here are some files (in .pdf format) which students find useful.

Circle divided into 36 segments. This can be used as a template to divide a bowl into 36 equal segments.  Print the image.  Cut out the circle & tack it to a piece of plywood.  Use the segments to mark the plywood.  The lines from the center to the segment marks can extend as long as you like to create a divided circle of any size.

Carving Jig.   This is a quick & lightweight version of a carving jig I use to hold bowls for fluting & other types of carving.  It is designed to be used with 2 lengths of 3/8" diameter threaded rod and 3/8" wing nuts.

Tool Shapes. Drawings of my two shear scrapers and my detail gouge.

Bowl Driver. Drawings of a do-it-yourself bowl driver. This is what I use to do the grain balancing as shown on my Open Bowl Turning video. Can used instead of a spur center to allow you to change the axis of a bowl on the lathe.
